Jeremy Meeks' handsome photograph made social media swoon when the Stockton Police Department shared it on its Facebook page on Wednesday, July 18 - sparking thousands of shares, 'likes', memes and very suggestive propositions.

The-30-year-old Stockton California native was arrested for illegal possession of firearms, carrying a loaded firearm in public & criminal street gang activity. Immediately his mugshot was posted on the Stockton Police Department’s Facebook page, people blew up the page, not because they were interested in his crime, but because of his looks, with many calling him the hottest criminal since Robin hood. He was arrested alongside three others but nobody cares about the others, just him and women are going crazy on Facebook and Twitter over his photo.

Jeremy's picture got over 45, 000 likes and almost 14,000 comments...with one user writing "Dear Jeremy, you can rob my house anytime you want. Just make sure you come alone ;)".

Another one wrote "He can add another teardrop to his face after he murders this p**sy".

"He can kidnap me any day... Hold me against my will," wrote another.

But the married father, who was arrested on five weapons charges and one gang charge when cops allegedly found a pistol in his trunk, has a much less desirable rap sheet, it has emerged.

For a decade, he has been in and out of courtrooms in California and Washington for crimes including resisting arrest, faking his identity and grand theft, for which he served two years.

He also bears gang tattoos, including a teardrop beneath his eye - often to symbolize a gang killing - and the word 'Crip' on his forearm, suggesting his link to the notoriously dangerous Crips gang.

In a statement released on Friday, Stockton police said he was part of the Northside Gangster Crips.

He appeared briefly at an arraignment in Stockton on Friday wearing an orange prison jumpsuit and handcuffs and only spoke to confirm that he wanted a court appointed lawyer. His bail was set at $1m and he is due to appear again June 27th.

Clockwise from top right: Jeremy Meeks, 30, Joelin Coleman, 44, Juzri Deon Coleman, 18
and Terry Bailey, 22, were arrested on gun charges in Stockton.
Memes of the convict's face have appeared online - and Meeks said he appreciates the kind words.
In another image, an internet user puts Meeks' face on a sign held by Michelle Obama.
In the original image - which became its own meme - she is holding a sign demanding
to free the kidnapped girls in Nigeria.
