A college student was found dead on Sunday, January 18, and she is believed to have died after choking on chewing gum.
Shanice Clark, a senior at California University of Pennsylvania, was found unresponsive in her dormitory at around 3 a.m. and pronounced dead an hour later.
The 21-year-old's death appeared to be accidental, according to a preliminary report from medical personnel cited by police.
Officials say Ms Clark, who was from Toronto, Canada, "aspirated" the gum while sleeping.
The university in California, Pennsylvania, said it was "deeply saddened" by the death of the 6ft senior basketball player, who played on its Vulcans team.
The college's athletic director, Dr Karen Hjerpe, said in a statement: "Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Shanice Clark.
"Shanice was a bright student and talented player. Her smile and personality will be missed."
