Rescued from the sea and taken to Libya, women migrants attempting to make the journey to Europe face difficult challenges.

They do not always know where they are being held, and a timeline for their release remains unknown.

Speaking to Al Jazeera's Hoda Abdel-Hamid, several women in a Misrata detention camp complain they have not been able to speak to their families for days--sometimes weeks. They worry no one knows where they are.

"I decided to leave because I am young lady, I need an education, I need everything," a Somali migrant, Saadia, told Al Jazeera.

"They killed my father, I don’t know where my mother is. So I had to leave to look better life at least."

The cramped space that they share together is the only room available for women. Outside, hundreds of men are roaming the corridor.

Al Jazeera's Hoda Abdel-Hamid has more from Misrata, Libya.
