The Presidency has dismissed rumours being circulated that Muhammadu Buhari refused to move into Aso Rock Presidential Villa because of advice from Senegalese spiritualists.
Several media reports had earlier claimed that a team of Senegalese marabouts intended to carry out the spiritual cleansing of the villa before Buhari moves in.
However, Malam Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant on media and publicity, has made a statement, saying that the presidency expressed "utter embarrassment at such suggestion". He stressed that Buhari is a practicing Muslim who believes his fate belongs to God.
According to the statement, no true believer combines faith in God and reliance on the power of ordinary mortals, who cannot protect themselves from the hands of fate.
Malam Shehu insisted that the so-called spiritual cleansing of the Aso Villa was the figment of the imagination of rumour mongers.
The president's spokesperson said that renovation works in the villa were largely responsible for the delay in Buhari's moving into the state house.
While the president currently operates from Defence House, his vice, Osinbajo is said to be residing in a private residence.
