Tragedy struck in Benin, the Edo State capital, over the weekend when a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) identified as David Onyeasina, was shot dead by armed robbers.
According to a Vanguard report, the 21-year-old corps member, who was posted to Edo College, along Murtala Mohammend Way, Benin City, for his primary assignment, was attacked and shot dead when he went out to buy a recharge card on Saturday, June 13.
Onyeasina was reportedly hit by stray bullets as the robbers attempted to escape after a robbery operation.
He was a graduate of Fine and Applied Arts from Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomosho, Osun State.
The state police command has arrested two of the robbers.
Confirming the incident, DSP Stephen Onwochei, the spokesman of the state police command, said the police are on the heels of other members of the gang.
Items recovered from the robbers include two cut-to-size guns, nine live cartridges, 10 mobile phones and jewelry belonging to their victims.
Onwochei, therefore, called on the public to assist the police with relevant information.
