A section of Christ Embassy Church, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos State, was yesterday razed by fire, destroying property worth millions of naira.

It was gathered that the fire, which reportedly lasted for about two hours on Wednesday, August 12, affected four 40ft containers, reportedly being used as storage facilities by the church.

The fire, which started round 4am, was caused by a burning heap of refuse, which later engulfed the containers close to an uncompleted building on the church premises.

According to an eyewitness, the fire which caused gridlock in the area, was put out by firefighters from the Alausa fire station, who were joined by some church workers.

Rasaq Fadipe, the Director, Lagos State Fire Service, confirmed the incident to NaijaScoop. He said: "We got the distress call at about 5am. We immediately deployed two fire trucks from the Alausa Station to attend to it. Four containers caught up in the fire contained electrical appliances, pumping machines and pieces of furniture."

The director noted that no life was lost in the inferno.

The fire incident was the second to be recorded at Nigeria's headquarters of the church between 2014 and this year. In March last year, the generator house of the church was gutted by fire during which about 14 diesel powered giant generators belonging to the church were destroyed.
