Terrifying Sea Creature Caught In Japan [Video]

A Japanese fisherman got an unexpected surprise when he hauled up his fishing net, a rare, 350 lb, 13 foot long, giant squid which is referred to by the Huffington Post as a 'terrifying', 'legendary sea creature' rarely caught by humans which 'inspired tall tales that terrified seafarers for centuries.'

"When I hauled up the net, the squid slowly came floating up," Goto said, according to the Daily Press. "This is the first time I've seen such a large squid."

If it is indeed confirmed to be a giant squid, Goto's capture could be very useful for researchers.

It is described as having eight, sucker-covered arms and massive eyes and according to Ocean Portal, this creature is elusive and rarely seen because they live deep underwater and most of what is known about them is what has been gleaned from carcasses like the one that will be shown in the video below, when they die and float to the surface.

According to the report this creature was alive but died soon after coming to the surface.
