Lupita Nyong'o's stolen pearl-covered Oscar dress has been returned to The London Hotel in west Hollywood where it was taken two days earlier, it has been revealed.
The guy who claims to have stolen the dress told TMZ that he had taken it from the actress' hotel room after he noticed the door had been left slightly open.
He said that he and others took two pearls off the dress and took them to the garment district in downtown Los Angeles where they were told they weren't real.
The thief continued that he decided to take the dress back to the hotel in a garment bag that was inside a trash bag that he deposited in a second floor bathroom adjacent to a fitness centre.
Detectives received a call from a media representative, informing them they had received a call from an anonymous caller with information in regards to the stolen Calvin Klein dress. The caller advised detectives that it could be located in an abandoned bathroom on the second floor of the hotel.
Law enforcement said that they were told the Calvin Klein dress was worth $150,000, but the thief said that it was almost worthless.
The thief told the website that he returned the bag and called them because he wanted the world to know "Hollywood's fake bulls**t."
Detectives are working with the owners of the dress, to confirm if that is the actual dress, and have explained that the authenticity of the pearls will not affect the ongoing investigation.

But Michael White of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said he believed it was. No arrests have been made.
"Whether the jewels on the dress are fake or real... we still have a burglary and we still have a grand theft," Mr White said.
Speaking about the dress' design, 31-year-old '12 Years a Slave' star, Lupita Nyong'o said: "We talked about it being fluid and liquid. I wanted it to be an homage to the sea."
