Satisfy Us In Bed Or Face Mass Divorce - Kaduna Women Protest Against Their Husbands

A group of women from the Rido community in Kaduna State, took to the streets on Wednesday, February 19, 2015 to publicly complain about their husband's sexual weakness, asking that they start performing their matrimonial duties or face mass divorce.

The women, who were assembled at the NDA Junction in the state capital, blamed the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC) for their husband's inability to perform as a result of the chemical waste and fumes from the company into their environment.

Speaking to newsmen during the protest, some of the married women complained bitterly that some of the men in the Mararaba Rido community were impotent due to the toxic waste from the KRPC.

They revealed that their husbands suffer weak erection and infertility, while the women suffer miscarriage and other health complications.

A married woman, Jummai Isaac, 27, said she has not taken in since she got married in the year 2000.

"I haven't conceived since I got married in the last fourteen years, and doctors have, on several occasions, confirmed to me absence of any known cause of inability to get pregnant.

"Initially, doctors thought I had fibroid in my womb, but after several scans and some medical tests, they dispelled that notion."

However, a community leader, Mohammed Bashar, explained that, "Most of the complaints could be associated with secondary infertility, because victims have, in the past, given birth to children before they suddenly stopped.

"There was widespread belief that smoke and poisonous gases emitted from the refinery have reproductive health effect on people living in the area, but no medical report has confirmed the allegation due to inability of villagers to seek comprehensive medical tests, perhaps owing to lack of awareness and poverty."

Lent is a solemn religious observance in the church calendar of many christian denominations that begins on Ash Wednesday and covers a period of approximately six weeks before Easter Sunday.

The main purpose of Lent is to prepare believers through prayer, fasting, repentance of sins, alms giving, atonement and self-denial. This event, along with its customs is mostly observed by Christians in the Anglican, Calvinist, Lutheran, Methodist, and Roman Catholic traditions.

Here are 10 things you need to know about the Lenten season:

1. Lent lasts for forty days, in commemoration of the forty days which, Jesus spent fasting in the desert, before beginning his public ministry.

2. Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent with the distribution of ashes on the forehead.

3. Lent officially ends on Holy Thursday.

4. There is a traditional custom of giving up something for lent which is voluntary.

5. The sixth Sunday in lent is Palm Sunday which marks the beginning of Holy Week, the final week of Lent immediately before Easter.

6. The fourth Sunday in Lent is Mothering Sunday, which is known as Mother's Day an occasion for honoring mothers of children.

7. The Thursday before Easter Sunday is known as Maundy Thursday, or Holy Thursday, and is a day Christians commemorate the Last Supper shared by Christ with his disciples.

8. The Friday before Easter Sunday is known Good Friday, on which Christians remember Jesus''crucifixion and burial'.

9. Christians fast during the lent and abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all Fridays during Lent.

10. Easter is the most important day on the Christian calendar.

Lent is a favorable time for showing concern for others by small yet concrete signs of our belonging to the one family. Hence every believer uses this time to prepare their hearts, minds and souls and open them up to God.

We Lost Because We Forgot To Score - Man Utd's Louis van Gaal

Ryan Giggs and Louis Van Gaal.
Manchester United's manager Louis Van Gaal has bemoaned his side's defeat to Swansea on Saturday, saying that they "forgot to score."

The Red Devils were beaten 2-1 away at the Liberty stadium, with Swansea doing the double over them thus season.

And the Dutch tactician said their inability to find the net cost them in the match, despite dominating their opposition.

"Of course you can say we dominated the game but the only thing we could have done more was score more out of the chances we created. Today we were the unlucky team. I think we created enough chances. We were the dominant side in both halves.

"Conceding so quickly after opening the scoring was important. It was a throw in for Swansea and we should have been more organised. But it was a good goal by Swansea.

"We played well - only we forgot to score. We have to be more effective," van Gaal said.

Meanwhile, League leaders Chelsea ended a turbulent week with a disappointing 1-1 home draw against strugglers Burnley.

The build-up to the game was overshadowed by the fallout from an incident in Paris on Tuesday in which a group of Chelsea fans prevented a black man from boarding a Metro train while chanting racist songs.

Chelsea took an early lead through Branislav Ivanovic, but after Nemanja Matic had been sent off for lashing out at Ashley Barnes, Ben Mee headed in an 81st-minute equaliser.

Ivanovic struck in the 14th minute, finishing from six yards after Eden Hazard had weaved his way through a posse of defenders on the Chelsea right.

But the tide began to turn in the 70th minute when Ivanovic's countryman Matic was sent off for shoving Barnes to the ground after the Burnley midfielder caught him on the shin with an ugly challenge.

Eleven minutes later, the visitors claimed a scarcely hoped-for draw when Mee headed home Kieran Trippier’s left-wing corner at the back post to nudge Sean Dyche's side closer to safety.

Arsenal capitalised on United's slip-up with a 2-1 win at London rivals Crystal Palace that saw Arsene Wenger's side climb to third place in the table.

Santi Cazorla opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a penalty and Olivier Giroud added a second on the stroke of half-time, following up after Julian Speroni had saved from Welbeck, but the England forward looked to have been offside in the build-up.

Glenn Murray tapped in a stoppage-time consolation for Palace.

Elsewhere, Tim Sherwood began his tenure as Aston Villa manager with a cruel 2-1 loss at home to Stoke City that saw his new side slip below Burnley to second-bottom.

Scott Sinclair headed Villa in front in the 20th minute, but Mame Biram Diouf equalised and Victor Moses gave Stoke victory with a stoppage-time penalty after Ron Vlaar was dismissed for felling Diouf.

Perennial troublemaker Joey Barton was sent off for flinging a hand towards Tom Huddlestone's nether regions as Queens Park Rangers lost 2-1 at relegation rivals Hull City.

Nikica Jelavic volleyed Hull ahead and although Charlie Austin headed in a 39th-minute equaliser shortly after Barton had been given his marching orders, Dame N'Doye gave Hull victory with an 89th-minute header.

In the day's other game, Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion played out a drab 0-0 draw at the Stadium of Light.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho had a face of thunder in his post-match interview. He had notes of four key incidents, but would not talk about any of the incidents. "I am punished when I refer to these situations and I don't want to be punished."

Aids Healthcare Foundation (AHF), an NGO says the use of condoms still remains one of the best methods for the prevention of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs).

Mrs Oluwakemi Gbadamosi, Advocacy Manager, AHF gave the assurance on Saturday during a community outreach to commemorate the 2015 International Condom Day tagged "Condoms are cool" in Abuja.

Gbadamosi said that condom was one of the widely available and highly effective HIV prevention tools.

"The International Condom Day is commemorated annually to reiterate the need for consistent and correct use of condoms as means of HIV prevention.

"Globally, the world is experiencing a decline in condom use and now more than ever the message of HIV and AIDS prevention needs to be at the forefront."

Mrs Christie Awunor, the HIV Coordinator of the Foundation, advised that people should check expiry dates before using condoms as it could be dangerous.

"Avoid using your teeth or sharp objects to open the condoms and also avoid using two condoms at a time.

"Condoms must be disposed properly as some children could mistake it for balloons."

The World Condom Day holds every Feb. 13, but was rescheduled in Nigeria due to the country's general elections earlier scheduled for Feb. 14.

As the war against Boko Haram rages on, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has said it is recording great results in its current battle to wipe out the insurgents, especially in Sambisa Forest and Gwoza in Borno state.

According to the Nigerian Watch, military authorities claim to have killed over 600 Boko Haram fighters in a concerted attack on their base in Sambisa Forest. The Nigerian Air Force bombed the terrorists while ground troops launched a land offensive.

Targeted at Boko Haram's training camps and logistics facilities in Sambisa Forest, the strikes targeted the town of Gwoza where the terrorists have a base. Reportedly, 615 insurgents have being killed during the operation.

According to military sources, hundreds of other fighters have fled into the surrounding countryside as a result of the assault, while large caches of equipment were recovered.

The DHQ in a statement confirmed the incident, saying that a lot of terrorists have died in a coordinated air campaign by security operatives, while many others were fleeing in the forest.

The statement reads: "A concerted air campaign by the Nigerian Air Force is ongoing in furtherance of the mission to clear terrorists from all their enclaves.

"The air strikes which today targeted the training camps and logistics dumps of the terrorists in Sambisa forests and parts of Gwoza have been highly successful as it achieved the aims with required precision.

"The death of a large number of terrorists has been recorded while many others are also scampering all over the forest and out of the struck bases. Details of casualty will be determined in subsequent phases of the operation.

"Meanwhile, the strikes continue in other locations of the theatre heralding the advance of troops and other elements of the mission."

It is widely suspected that the Sambisa Forest, located not far from the Borno state capital, is the home for Boko Haram insurgents. About two weeks ago reports surfaced that Nigerian troops had finally invaded the insurgents' notorious hideout in the forest as a part of actions to suppress the terrorists.

While people were busy celebrating love last Valentine's Day, a family somewhere in Ebonyi State was suddenly overtaken by grief over what would have been the beginning of a beautiful love story between their daughter and the man she was bringing home for introduction.

The young woman, a native of Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was bringing home her suitor when only a few poles to her family house, the vehicle they were traveling in had an accident and she watched helplessly as the one she loved took the last breath.. They were traveling in a commercial bus.

Strangely, the young man, an indigene of Abia State, was the only occupant of the bus that died in the accident. The intending couple had traveled alongside a few family members of the man from Aba for the event that was to hold just a few meters from the scene of the accident.

According to an eyewitness account, the passengers claimed that the driver was trying to avoid hitting an old woman who was crossing the road when he lost control and hit the wall of a building.

The eyewitness, Frank Ori said he ran out of his house when he heard the deafening bang of the vehicle hitting the wall.

"I heard when people were shouting and so I ran out of my house to the place. The passengers were talking about a woman. When we asked whom they were referring to, they explained that while they were coming an old woman was crossing the road.

"So, the driver tried to avoid hitting her. But seeing that he was about to hit a building, he turned the steering suddenly and in the process the vehicle somersaulted and hit another wall. But when we came out, we could not see any woman fitting the description they gave. We asked people and they said that they did not see any woman like that.

"Strangely again, out of all the passengers, it was only the young man that was killed. The wife-to-be, who was also traveling with him,  suffered only a small glass cut. They were all coming in the samevehicle. It was only that man that died from the accident. The girl he was going to marry had only a small cut, along with one other woman. Every other person in the bus was safe. It was just the three of them that were rushed to the hospital," Ori said.

Sunday Sun gathered that the father of the girl was late, while her mother resided in the village. The girl wasresident in Aba where she met the late suitor. Ori explained that when rescuers made to move the man out of the damaged vehicle, they discovered that he was not talking.

"It happened that when the vehicle hit the wall, part of the block that fell from the wall fell on the man’s head. It was lying on his head. Then we rushed him alongside the wife-to-be and one other woman that sustained an injury to the Presbyterian Joint Hospital in Uburu. But before getting to the hospital, he gave up the ghost," Ori said.

President Goodluck Jonathan and Alaafin Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III.
President Goodluck Jonathan has met with paramount traditional ruler of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III.

The meeting which is in continuation of his presidential electioneering campaign was reportedly held behind closed-doors on Friday in Oyo State.

Daily Independent reported that shortly before Jonathan entered into a private room with the Oba, he told the people that received him and his entourage in the Oba's palace that the visit was in fulfillment of his promise to come back during his last visit to Alaafin.

The President pleaded with the Oba to give him support in the coming election and promised to consolidate on his present achievements.

Responding, briefly, Oba Adeyemi III pleaded with politicians to embrace peace in country, before during and after the election, noting that genuine development can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.

The traditional ruler later dressed the President in traditional Yoruba aso-oke attire with a matching cap.

Mr. President arrived the ancient town in a helicopter which landed amidst tight security at St. Bernadines Grammar School.

It was gathered that journalists were barred from coverage by heavily armed soldiers who condoned off the school's premises as Jonathan was accompanied by top government officials and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Adamu Muazu.

Jonathan and his entourage were later driven in a motorcade via Owode to the Alaafin palace.

Meanwhile, some residents of the state were reportedly angry over the President's visit due to the siege laid at the ancient town by armed soldiers and policemen ahead Jonathan's visit.

Some of the residents who spoke to newsmen questioned why the town should be put under siege by security agencies because of the President's visit.

One of the residents, who gave Waheed Oriola said: "We are not in banana republic where authoritarianism, autocracy and flagrant disregard to human dignity is the order of the day. The blaring of sirens and influx of soldiers has caused a lot of psychological trauma to us, even since Friday evening. Most of us are afraid to go to out for our means of livelihood due to the large presence of the soldiers as if we are at war, this is serious, this is really a show of power intoxication."

Oriola further hinted that: "Muhammadu Buhari, the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) came here to campaign around 9.30 p.m and was welcomed with tumultuous crowd at the Alaafin's palace and without any siege of security."

'Buhari Is Fit To Rule Nigeria' - Kwankwaso

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, expressed his assurance that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Muhammadu Buhari, is in a better health condition than President Goodluck Jonathan.

According to various media reports, a former Head of State is presently on a working visit to the United Kingdom.

His campaign office had issued a statement saying that in the course of the visit, Buhari will hold meetings with key members of the British political establishment and interact with some global institutions with interest in the affairs of Nigeria.

However, there have been various speculations by supporters of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, that Buhari went to London to receive medical attention because of his poor health.

The Kano governor, who was speaking with newsmen in Kano on February 22, 2015, said Buhari had no health challenges, Premium Times reports.

“By my judgement, since we finished our party primary elections, he is sound, hale and fit to rule this country.

“In fact I feel he is healthier than the incumbent occupier of the seat because he went to all the states on campaigns in addition to other engagements that come in between,” he said.

Kwankwaso took the opportunity to accuse the Federal government and the PDP of sharing money to win the upcoming presidential election. But he also stressed that money alone could not give success in the polls.

“The Federal Government and the PDP can use all the money in the treasury to bribe whoever they want, but God, the Almighty, has his own way of doing things.

Power belongs to Him not to those with money or who control security agencies. Nigerians are wiser,” he said.

On his ruling as governor, Kwankwaso said all state governors work to develop their states unless if they chose to steal instead.

“People are surprised and many are asking questions that where did we get the money to do these projects we are doing in Kano. But the truth of the matter is that – you cannot steal and perform. It is the money for projects that people steal that is why they are not performing. In Kano we don’t steal,” he said.

In the interview the governor also mentioned some of the main projects he undertook in the state including the award of an Independent Power Project at Tiga and Challawa-Gorge Dam, establishment of one garment factory in each of the 44 local governments in the state and the establishment of a Micro Finance bank in each local government. Kwankwaso added that 44 Schools for Islamic Studies and 44 Technical Schools were built in the state.

Abubakar Shekau.
Determined to demystify the Boko Haram sect, which has instilled terror in the hearts of Nigerians, troops involved in the counter-insurgency operation in the North-East have been given the order to capture the sect's leader - Abubakar Shekau - alive, who is believed to be desperately looking for escape routes following the recent military onslaught in the area.

The terrorist leader has been killed at least twice by troops, but somehow, he manages to resurface to the embarrassment of the country's security agencies, who argue that 'Abubakar Shekau' is a pseudonym for the leader of the terrorist organization.

However, the story is set to change with Shekau now wanted alive, to put such confusions to rest.

PR Nigeria, which issues statements on behalf of security agencies, said on Sunday in a statement: "Nigerian troops have been put on red alert for any insurgent leader bearing the name of Imam Abubakar Shekau who is believed to be desperately looking for escape routes. A senior military source informed PR Nigeria that troops have been urged to try at all costs to capture Shekau alive so that he would face justice.

"On at least two occasions now, troops have killed characters calling themselves Abubakar Shekau in videos but the insurgents managed to find other individuals looking like him and pretend that he was still alive".

The statement noted that the order to get Shekau alive is to ensure that it will no longer be possible to resort to the same trick.

Meanwhile, the morale of troops in the battlefront has been boosted by the decision of senior military officers to lead the operations directly, influencing change of some commanders.

In the past, Colonels led direct attacks but because of the large scale desertions, Army Generals decided to directly lead the war and this has greatly boosted troop morale, the agency said.

'My Heart Smiles For Him' - Kim Kardashian Kisses Kanye West

Kim Kardashian kissed her hubby Kanye West as he received the Visionary Award at the 2015 BET Honors ceremony, which was broadcast yesterday night after being taped last month.

For his acceptance speech, Mr West began by saying he felt humbled for the first time in his life and then used his relationship with Kim, who is a "person not of color" to talk about race and separatism. He thanked Kim and told everyone that she wasn't in a relationship with him for his fame or fortune.

"My wife has dated broke black dudes so it ain't got nothing to do with the money," he said as Kim laughed from the audience.

He shared a story Kim once told him about her father Robert Kardashian being deemed a "n*gger lover" for representing O.J. Simpson. Kanye said, "We deal with racism because there are different races. Or the micro of it is that we focus on the different races, as opposed to the macro, which is the human race."

While making reference to some of his past controversial remarks, Kanye said "race" and "people's perception of celebrity" have been used to stop him from being "empowered," and argued that the worth of black people have been misrepresented. He even said, "Harriet Tubman could have freed more if they only knew they weren't free." West went on, "So don't think that because we can afford this custom Balmain suit that we're free. And don't think that because we can buy a $300,000 car that we're free. And don't think because three percent of a gated community has colored people in it that we're free."

"It's the mentality, the slave mentality, that we all eventually become slaves to that car, slaves to the perception, slaves to the idea of being cool," West continued. He concluded, "Our power, our oil, since we don't own any oil, is our expression, is our influence. Don't never let them take that away. And when we have the chance to express it and influence, don't just do it for us. Do it for the human race."

She may have looked a bit mortified at Kanye's 'broke black dudes' comments, but Kim was otherwise very supportive of her husband and his award.

"Congrats baby!!!! #VisionaryAward #BETHonors," she posted on social media, along with a photo of Mr. and Mrs. West sharing a kiss.

In another post, she wrote, "Watching Kanye's speech at the BET Honors made me smile! He is so deserving of this visionary award! I'm so proud of him #MyHeartSmiles4Him"

Conjoined Twins Successfully Separated In World-First Operation

Conjoined twins Knatalye Hope and Adeline Faith Mata, who were connected at the chest and abdomen have been separated after an operation that has never before been successfully attempted.

The twins were born in Texas last April and were welcomed by parents Elysse and John Eric.

The parents were told that their twin girls would be conjoined and when they were born it was found their shared the same chest wall, lungs, pericardial sac (the lining of the heart), diaphragm, liver, intestines, colon and pelvis.

A team of more than 26 clinicians, including 12 surgeons, six anesthesiologists and eight surgical nurses who assembled at the Texas Children's Hospital operated to separate the 10-month-olds.

The 26-hour surgery was the first time twins conjoined at the chest and abdomen in this way had been separated successfully.

And now their mother Elysse says she can't thank the surgeons enough for giving her daughters the chance to live separate lives.

She said: "We know how much planning and time went into this surgery and we are so blessed to be at a place like Texas Children's where we have access to the surgeons and caretakers that have made this dream a reality.

"We also want to express our gratitude to all of the people that have prayed and provided support to our family over the last 10 months."

Dr Darrell Cass, paediatric surgeon said: "This is the first time a separation surgery for thoraco-omphalo-ischiopagus twins with this particular configuration has been successful.

"This surgery was not without its challenges with the girls sharing several organ systems. Our team has been preparing for this surgery for months and we've done everything from working with our radiology experts to build a 3-D model of their organs, to conducting simulations of the actual separation surgery."

The girls are now being cared for in the hospital's paediatric intensive care unit, where they will recover for the next couple of months.

Maldives' Former President Dragged Into Court By Police

A court in the Maldives on Monday refused bail to former president Mohamed Nasheed after he was arrested on terrorism charges and denied access to his lawyers, his party said.

According to The Guardian, police forcibly dragged the opposition leader into the court in the country's capital, Malé, ignoring his plea to be allowed to walk in himself, and denied him medical attention despite the court ordering "necessary treatment".

Nasheed told the court that his arm hurt after police pushed him violently to the ground. But the bench of three judges brushed aside his complaints, only asking police to seek treatment for him after the hearing.

His shirt buttons were missing and he appeared in pain throughout the brief hearing.

Instead of taking him to hospital, Nasheed was seen being taken away by boat to the nearby prison islet of Dhoonidhoo.

"The court ordered President Nasheed to be kept in police custody until the end of the trial," said Shauna Aminath, a spokeswoman for the Maldivian Democratic party (MDP).

The MDP has argued that his arrest on "trumped-up charges of terrorism" is an attempt to shut down growing opposition to the government of President Abdulla Yameen before a planned protest rally on Friday.

Nasheed's lawyer said the charges were "blatantly politically motivated" and condemned authorities for refusing his client legal access.

"This arrest and detention is completely arbitrary," said Hissan Hussein. "The conduct of the courts, police and President Yameen’s administration has been reprehensible."

The MDP, which said it could not expect a fair trial, added that Nasheed had been told that his lawyers should have registered to represent him two days before the hearing, even though he was only arrested and charged on Sunday (Feb. 22).

State prosecutors pressed the court to deny him bail in relation to the current case after he took refuge at the Indian embassy to avoid arrest in 2013.

Hundreds of party activists took to the streets shouting anti-government slogans after Nasheed, the country's first democratically elected president, was detained on Sunday.

The charges against the 47-year-old relate to the 2012 arrest of the country's criminal court chief judge Abdulla Mohamed for alleged corruption.

The authorities have yet to issue a comment on Nasheed's arrest and the subsequent court proceedings.
